IIM NMD 2014

College of Engineering Pune in collaboration with Indian Institute of Metals, Pune, Mumbai, Baroda and Nagpur Chapters nd hosted the 52 National Metallurgist' Day and th 68 Annual Technical Meeting at College of Engineering, Pune from November 12-15, 2014. The theme for NMD-ATM 2014 was 'Redefining the Horizons of Metallurgy/Materials: Focus on Automotive, Aerospace, Defence and Energy'. This event was being organized in Pune after a gap of nearly four decades and it was a special occasion for College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) and for the entire metallurgical fraternity to host the same in Pune. Earlier, this event was organized at CoEPin the year 1976.

The conference was attended by 1442 delegates which includes 25 foreign delegates, 110 invited speakers who explained the various technical concepts focusing on automotive, aerospace, defense and energy. Total 30 technical theme symposia were organized on several topics of interest namely, Integrated Computational Materials Engineering, Additive Manufacturing (also known as 3D printing), Materials for the Automotive Industry, Joining Technology, IT enabled Manufacturing, Materials for Energy Sectors, Corrosion and protection, Powder Metallurgy, Steelmaking, Heat treatments and Surface Engineering, Nano materials, Defence Materials, Space Materials, Non- destructive Testing, Fuel Cells and Batteries, Nuclear Materials, Predictive Data Analytics for Manufacturing, Advance Material Characterization, Sponge Iron, Metal Forming. Out of 850 abstracts, nearly 247 short presentation followed by posters was the special feature of the conference in addition to 503 oral presentations. The metallography presentation was marked by XYZ delegates covering metallography pertaining to optical, scanning and transmission microscopy.
